May's birthstone is an emerald, which is known for it's vivid green color. The word emerald itself means 'green stone.' I have always loved the vibrant color and how it comes after the white or clear of April it really stands out.
Emeralds are found Colombia, Brazil, Afghanistan, and Zambia and finding ones that have good color is getting harder. By weight emeralds are one of the most valuable gems in the world.
Emeralds sometimes associated with loyalty and friendship and are supposed to bring the wearer good fortune.
I love seeing the color vary from bright to dark green. So if bright isn't your style you can still wear darker emeralds and add a pop of color to your outfit. Or you can personalize necklaces with a dark and light stone.
