Taking Care of: Gold Vermeil

Did you know that one of my most popular pieces recently has been this green onyx, gold vermeil ring?

It's sure pretty, I'm sure if you were one who got one you would like to know how to keep it so pretty.

Gold vermeil is silver coated in gold, most of the gold vermeil jewelry sold in my shop is 18k gold over the silver. It can last a long time if taken care of correctly.

The most important thing I can say about taking care of gold vermeil is to make sure and take it off before swimming or going in a hot tub. Chlorine can discolor or damage it. Also be careful wearing it around cleaners or other harsh substances. Lotion and soap shouldn't harm it but it may make the gold become a little dull over time.

If it does become dull you can clean it with a cloth, make sure that if it is a jewelry cleaning cloth it is one specifically for gold and not for silver. The silver cloths and cleaners can scratch the gold surface. You can also clean it with a mild soap and water mixture, rinsing and drying completely.
