January Birthstone- Garnet

I always thought January was a pretty boring month. There are no major holidays in it, it's full on winter, and it always seemed so long. Now January rolls around and I am relieved, after running like crazy for the past two months January seems nice. Yes, it's still full on winter and it is still a little long, but it's also somewhat nice to be back to normal. Something that is not boring about January is the birthstone, it's my favorite color.

January - Garnets 

Garnets are popular in jewelry making because they are hard stones which means they hold up well to wear and tear. Garnets are most often red. Sometimes they are a darker red like these:

The red can range all the way to almost purple.

Green Garnets

One of the fun things about garnets is that they can be almost any color. Red is the most common, but that doesn't mean that a pretty green can't also be used as the January birthstone.

In the dark winter it's nice to have a little color, and garnets for January are just that. I bright bit of color.
