How to make a toddler tie from Dad's

Being the mother of two little boys I am overjoyed when I find something I can craft for them. With girls you can make dresses, hair clips, jewelry, and lots of other girly things but with boys there is not as many things to make, especially for them to wear (at least in my opinion). I had been wanting to do this for a while so I just went at it and my two year old LOVES. It's also great if you don't want to spend $25 on a toddler tie!
1.) Start of with a regular tie. This was actually a little tricky for me because a lot of the ones I liked looked were too wide for my little man, but I found a couple good 'skinny ties' which worked out wonderfully.

2.) Measure the distance from their collar to their waist so you can tie the tie the right length (I wouldn't recommend tying it on your toddler unless they are REALLY patient because it might take a few tries). Tie your tie.

3.) Once it is the desired length and tie is secure, cut off the excess (don't worry about what it will look like on the back, that's not going to be seen)

4.) Then grab your needle and thread and begin sewing the back of the knot so it won't slip and come undone. For me, this part was not pretty, but I sewed it up around the edges so it wouldn't move, and once again, don't worry cause it won't be seen.

5.) Now on to the neck. Cut the back of the neck loop, this is where you'll be putting your velcoro.

6.) For mine I ended up folding each strap in half and sewing them together because they looked too think. This part probably could be skipped but I did it anyways. At the very least sew up the ends. You could either do a quick zig zag stitch or do it by hand. Also this is not extremely important because it will be hidden by the collar.

7.) Attach 2-3 inches of velcro on either end. I sewed mine, it was quick and messy but got the job done. Hand sewing is not my forte and I was in a hurry!

Enjoy!

P.S. I am working on making some ties from scratch because some of my husband's ties just aren't as bright or fun enough for my crazy toddler. Post soon to come!
