Magnetic Menu Board

Though I don't have tons of time (like most moms) I love to cook but it is always a chore figuring out what to make with what I have on hand. So a while back I started doing two week menus so I know what I am going to make and keep me from totally freaking out come dinner time.

Also I love to try new recipes. Two of my favorite places to get them from: Just a Mom? Ha! and Homemade Toast, rather than going to a recipe book because I like to know it's been 'tested' and how it went. When I find a recipe that is 'approved', I put it on a recipe card for later. When I pull the card back out, I usually just place it on the counter getting it completely covered with ingredients by the time I'm done. It's gross.

So I thought it was about time to do a magnetic board in the kitchen for the weekly menu and to put recipes where I can read them but not ruin them. Here is what I came up with:

I started with a magnetic board I got from the craft store on sale. Later I found out I had some sheet metal in the garage (can get it from any home improvement store, usually cheaper than in craft stores), but I'll put that to use soon enough!
I must confess I love to buy coordinating sets of scrapbook paper, it leaves a lot of the guess work out of crafting and almost whatever you do, looks good. So I found some I had on hand. I went for dark blue because it goes great with my avacado colored kitchen.
Added some fun flowers and a little bling!
A some rub on lettering....
I also figured why not do the back side, in case I get bored. I thought the paper would look great but I think it's a little too much green, but maybe I'll get used to it! I also added a little birdie and some ribbon. For the words I just used some rub on letters I had. I sure do love rub ons.....

****A reader wrote me and said she was going to try this but instead of using sheet metal she was going to use a cookie sheet. That's right A COOKIE SHEET! Genius!!!

  4. I love the birdie side. I like the idea of a magnetic board to hold recipe cards to keep them from getting dirty while cooking. I think I'm gonna have to steal your idea! Thanks for sharing. :)
