Bezel Setting

I'll admit it. I don't know all the terms Kendra uses to describe her jewelry. I thought I would do some research and share the information with you, in case I am not the only one who didn't know.

In her description of this ring it says Bezel made of 18k vermeil (18k gold over sterling silver)” Here is a general diagram of a ring.

  1. hoop
  2. shoulder
  3. bezel
  4. jewel
This picture isn't the best representation but the bezel is the part that holds the gem, it's usually thicker than the rest of the hoop and it has a lip to hold the gem in place. Rings without bezel's usually have prongs which aren't as secure and don't protect the sides of the jewel like a bezel does. One way to think of the bezel is like the black edge around the screen of your phone.

A bezel setting is utilized in other jewelry as well. You can see it here in this necklace and earrings.

So was it just me that didn't know that? Are there any other words she uses that you don't know?
