Birthstone of the Month - October

Confession. Up until I was about 7 or so I seriously thought the months of the year went "October, November, December, January....." Why? Probably because October was and still is the best month of the year. It has Halloween and more importantly to my 7 year old self it was my birth month.

Fast forward to when I was a little older getting my ears pierced when I found out what my birthstone was. It was pink. Pink. PINK. I was horrified because I was definitely not a pink person and remained that way for a very long time. It probably took me until I was a junior in high school for me to bring myself to wear pink.

As an adult pink is probably not my favorite color, though my boys think is is because according to them it is all girls favorite color but I do like it  a lot, wear it often and have come to accept it as my birthstone.

October - Pink Tourmaline and Opal

Traditionally there are actually two different stones that celebrate those October babies out there. Pink tourmaline and opal. Currently I don't use a lot of opal in my jewelry but use more of the pink tourmaline. There are other stones people use in place of the pink tourmaline because it is a darker pink and it can also be more expensive. Fun fact, pink tourmaline is probably one of my top 5 most expensive stones in my shop, yes, it is more expensive than some rubies I have!

Also in the Personalized Jewelry section of my shop, I use pink tourmaline gemstones in all the designs where you get to choose your own birthstones.

Pink Quartz

Quartz comes in all colors and shades and often people use this as October birthstone becuause can be much more affordable than the pink tourmaline gemstones but has a very similar look to it.

This is one of my new favorite gemstones, chalcedony. Unlike quartz stones it is not as translucent but has a more milky look to it. I love it in all it's colors!

While I am not sporting pink everyday I still love it and find myself wearing a lot of pretty pink stones because it adds a nice touch of color and brings out the October girl in me.

Happy October!
