I don't know about other kids but my daughter is not happy without being physically active during the day. She gets grumpy and jittery and it's frustrating for all of us. Unfortunately we live in the land of eternal winter (at least that's what it feels like to me) so on days we can't get outside we have to get creative at home. Here are a few things we do.
- Simon Says
- Dance Party
- Masking Tape Games: use masking tape to make a balance beam or hopscotch game
- Yoga or other workouts: we love Cosmic Kids Yoga on youtube
- Sock Sliding: put on socks and slide around the freshly cleaned kitchen floor, wax paper under your feet make it even more slippery
- Red Light, Green Light
- Acting out Animals: you wouldn't believe how much effort it takes to walk around the house like a bear
- Obstacle Course: put together a simple course using soft things to jump over and paths to walk, you can even add challenges like jumping jacks or sit ups
- Pillow Jumping : it's exactly what it says, put out a bunch of pillows and jump from each one to another, pretend you can't touch the ground
- Hula Hoops
- Balance Board: the balance board turtorial by Elsie Marley is a great idea for moving indoors
