I love pearls, they have always been my favorite for jewelry. I remember borrowing a friend's strand of pink pearls to wear to my high school prom. Thinking back and after doing some research as to how to take care of them I did some things wrong that night. Hopefully she forgives me.
Pearls are a softer gem, and although cultured pearls are usually stronger than natural pearls they both are soft and require some special care.
Pearls can become damaged by beauty products so it is important to put your pearls on last and take them off first. So they aren't on you as you are spraying hairspray or applying lotion. On last, off first. This is the part I think I have often gotten wrong with pearls.
When storing your pearls it can be helpful to do the clasp so that it won't scratch the rest of the necklace or bracelet.
Usually pearls can be cleaned just with rubbing with a soft cloth, especially if if you clean them after wearing them. If they have some build up that won't just come off with a cloth then you can clean them using a mild soap mixed with water. Baby shampoo is a great soap for this. If you still need more scrub than the soft cloth will give you use a soft manicure brush. Rinse with clean water.
Pearl jewelry is so beautiful and can stay beautiful if you take care of them.
